BMW Ending U.S. Sales of iX SUV: ReportBMW
The BMW iX represented a major shift for the German automaker when it arrived in 2021. Not only was the iX BMW’s first battery-electric SUV, but its rounded, open-mouth styling offered a glimpse at the future of Bavarian Motor Works design. But even the best innovators eventually expire, as exemplified by BMW’s reported sunsetting of the iX.
According to BMW Blog, the German automaker provided a recent statement confirming that iX models won’t be allocated to the U.S. for the 2027 model year. That means that the current BMW iX inventory will be the end of the line Stateside. A new generation of BMW Neue Klasse electric models is on the way, and the Bavarians want to make some room.

BMW
“We are proud of what we have accomplished with the BMW iX. Since its introduction, it has served as a technological showcase, pushing the boundaries of design, manufacturing, sustainability, and circularity. Our success in the U.S. is driven by a broad and flexible powertrain portfolio that allows us to navigate a dynamic environment while continuing to evolve our lineup,” a spokesperson for BMW’s North American division said, according to BMW Blog. “As part of this progression, we are concluding U.S. allocation of the BMW iX as we prepare for the next generation of our fully electric vehicles.”
Of course, the iX letters will live on domestically in the iX3—BMW’s first Neue Klasse model set to arrive Stateside. BMW said it was “confident these vehicles will surpass the expectations of customers when they enter the U.S. market” and emphasized the technological advantages of its new sixth-generation eDrive technology. Even so, it’s worth noting that the iX isn’t being discontinued globally and will likely live on through 2027 in other markets.

BMW
It’s not entirely surprising that BMW is culling the iX from U.S. dealerships. 2025 sales figures show iX sales down 18.2 percent year-over-year, accounting for 12,587 sales in 2025. The i4 significantly outperformed the iX in BMW’s 2025 electric portfolio sales, totaling 20,114 units. For comparison, BMW’s most popular models like the X5 accounted for over 76,000 unit sales in 2025.
