After being discontinued in 2023, will the Ford Fiesta come back? A recent agreement signed between Renault Group and Ford Motor Company suggests that the popular Fiesta model could return – this time, in fully electric form. This is everything we know about the Ford Fiesta Electric, which if confirmed, could arrive in 2028.

Has the Ford Fiesta been discontinued for good?

After nearly 50 years of production and seven model generations, Ford discontinued the ICE-powered Fiesta model. Despite its discontinuation, the Fiesta was one of the best selling cars across Europe, but Ford cited a growing consumer appetite for larger SUVs and smaller profit margins on small cars as reasons for its cancellation. However, with the rapid rise of small and more affordable electric cars, the opportunity now seems ripe for Ford to reenter this small car market.

How the Renault and Ford collaboration will work

In December 2025, Renault Group and Ford Motor Company signed an agreement which will see the two manufacturers work together on creating affordable electric cars in Europe. This agreement will see two Ford-badged EVs arrive from 2028, based on Renault Group’s AmpR Small EV platform. This platform has already been utilised for two of Renault’s recent EVs, the Renault 4 and the Renault 5.

The model names that Ford will allocate to these two new cars remain unknown, but it seems highly likely that Ford will bring back the Fiesta name for one of the models. Ford has had a history of reviving model names for the EV era, including the Explorer and the Capri, so it only seems fitting for the Fiesta to follow. The Renault 5 shows just how suited the AmpR Small EV platform is towards a five-door, five-seater, small hatchback.

Ford Fiesta Electric specifications and pricing

While the Ford Fiesta Electric remains unconfirmed, the current Renault 5 gives us a hint as to what sort of performance, specification, and pricing we could expect from such a model. Currently, the Renault 5 is priced from around £22,995 / €24,900 across Europe, and we’d expect a Fiesta EV spinoff to be priced in line with this. Battery-wise, the Renault 5 is offered with the choice of either a 40kWh or 52kWh battery pack, with claimed ranges of 194 miles and 255 miles respectively, and we would expect similar options for a Fiesta model.

For power, a Fiesta EV would likely have the option of a 121 horsepower motor or 148 horsepower motor – just like the Renault 5. Theoretically, a hot hatch spin off of the Fiesta EV could also be possible, thanks to much of the performance groundwork already carried out with the launch of the Alpine A290 – the performance-led twin of the Renault 5, which packs a punchier 180 horsepower.
