ODOT says an additional 64 EV charging stations will be built across the state by 2027, including 4 in northwest Ohio.
OHIO, USA — The pivot away from electric vehicles by the Trump administration was swift when he took office.
Ford, Stellantis and other major American car makers pulled back from EV production following the 2024 election.
Still, the growth in the adoption of EVs has not stopped – and with the war in Iran, and the higher gas prices that have resulted, people may be reassessing whether the country pulled back on the transition to EVs too quickly.
As a sign that EV infrastructure is still on the mind of lawmakers in the state, the Ohio Department of Transportation recently announced an additional 64 EV charging stations throughout the state.
ODOT says $51 million from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program will be awarded to selected developers to install and operate the stations, located at businesses throughout the state. Private business will kick in an additional $26 million for the buildout.
Still, just four of those charging stations will be in northwest Ohio.
Most locations selected to get new stations are clustered around Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton, and Cincinnati.

Northwest Ohio stations are planned for:
I-280 at Bahnsen Rd., Perrysburg – Travel Centers of AmericaI-75 at U.S. 23, Rossford – AldiU.S. 224 and Fostoria Ave., Findlay – Findlay MallI-80/I-90, Milan OH – Love’s Travel Shop
Whereas most EV owners do the majority of their charging at home, the new stations will give them new options for charging while traveling farther distances from home.
ODOT says the number of charging stations in Ohio allows certainty that reliable charging is available to EV owners who are traveling.
The next round of sites will include at least four charger ports with 150 kilowatts of power for each port along with access to restrooms and food.
There are now 126,212 electric vehicles registered in Ohio, with steady growth each year according to ODOT.
By September 2025, EVs accounted for 5 percent of new vehicle registrations statewide.
Construction of the charging stations is expected to be completed by 2027.
