Is it time to sell your petrol/diesel car and buy an EV? Fuel prices are at an all-time high and EV prices are pretty much at an all-time low. It seems like a knee-jerk reaction to go out and buy a new EV now but if fuel prices remain high due to the ongoing war in the Middle East, maybe this is the tipping point?

During March, 2026, battery electric vehicles made up 14.6% of overall new vehicle registrations in Australia. That’s the highest concentration we’ve seen, up from the usual ~10%. EVs are becoming more affordable, with recent models such as the MG4 Urban, GAC AION UT, and GWM Ora 5 all coming in at well under the $40,000 mark, offering good space and practicality and decent range.
