he National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is facing mounting scrutiny over its purchase of more than 21,000 electric motorcycles for kitchen heads in its free meal program, intensifying concerns about wasteful spending within the initiative.
BGN chief Dadan Hindayana said the purchase was included in the agency’s 2025 budget and is intended to support kitchen operations.
“The procurement is part of broader efforts to ensure the smooth implementation of the free nutritious meals program across the country,” he said on Tuesday as quoted by Kompas.com.
Government data show BGN has procured 21,801 electric motorcycles out of a planned 25,000 units, at an estimated cost of more than Rp 1 trillion.
The motorcycles are the Emmo JVX-GT electric trail model, priced at about Rp 49.95 million per unit, and manufactured by Indonesian electric vehicle firm PT Adlas Sarana Elektrik.
Dadan said the vehicles have not yet been distributed, as they must first be registered as state-owned assets before deployment.
