The longest serving MP in Reading has encouraged people to sign up for a scheme to have electric vehicle charging facilities installed outside their homes.
The Kerbo Charge installation is an innovative system for charging electric vehicles for people who don’t have off-street parking by creating a channel through the pavement, allowing people to lay charging cables without causing a trip hazard.
Reading Borough Council recently announced that it has been awarded £202,000 to give up to 400 people discounted Kerbo Charge installations outside their homes.
Matt Rodda, the Labour MP for Reading Central, is encouraging people to apply for Kerbo Charge installations.
In a video taken in Norwood Road, East Reading, Mr Rodda said: “As more and more people think about getting electric vehicles, it’s important that there’s on-road charging.
“I’m really pleased that Reading Borough Council has announced a scheme to make this cheaper for people who live in terraced streets, and I’m looking forward to more people taking this up.”
Kerbo Charge installations begin at £832 plus VAT, and you can take £500 off the cost of your charger with a new government grant that went live today (Wednesday, April 1).
People with EV cars still have to pay for parking permits in controlled zones, but benefit from paying the lowest tariff following the introduction of emissions-based parking charges in February.
Permits for one car start at £48.
Earlier this year, cllr Daya Pal Singh (Labour, Emmer Green) was asked to remove a privately installed electric charger in Tuxford Mews, West Reading.
