The Ogden Police Department says it’s seeing an increase in illegal activity around the use of electric bikes riding in the village, specifically involving teenagers.

Police say they’ve responded to multiple crashes, including one where a rider allegedly ran a red light and collided with a vehicle.

They are asking parents to review rider safety and traffic laws with their children.

“E-bikes are fast, quiet, and often operated without an understanding of the rules of the road or the risks involved,” Ogden Police said in a social media post Wednesday. “What may seem like harmless fun can quickly turn into a life-altering situation without you even knowing. Not to mention, if your child is at fault, the damages from collisions are coming out of your pocket.”

Ogden Police say the village of Spencerport and the town of Ogden have adopted local laws restricting where e-bikes may be operated.
