Tesla saw its vehicle registrations in the first quarter of the year jump across the Scandinavian markets driven by a major surge in the final month of Q1, official registration data showed on Wednesday.
The Elon Musk-led company remains the best-selling brand in Norway — the country with the highest EV adoption — having accounted for a share of 34.8% of the whole market.
Official registration data from OFV shows that a total of 6,150 Tesla EVs were sold in Norway last month.
The figures represent a fivefold increase from February and nearly triple that of a year ago.

The strong numbers — which are just below the two-year monthly high of last November — come amid Tesla‘s typical end-of-quarter push to boost deliveries.
Tesla held a 16.6% market share in Norway in February, according to official data from the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV).
Sales recovered from a weaker January, which was widely anticipated as Norway removed EV incentives — after the powertrain represented 95% of all new car sales in 2025.
Despite the weaker first month, however, quarterly deliveries have nearly doubled year over year — to 7,443 vehicles from 3,817.
Tesla set a full-year sales record with 34,285 vehicles sold in 2025.
The company captured 19.1% of the market and surpassed Volkswagen’s previous record of 26,575 vehicles from 2016.
Lineup and Competitors
Last month, the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 were the best-selling models in Norway.
The SUV accounted for 4,288 vehicles, while the sedan represented 1,860 units.
The third and fourth best-selling models in the Norwegian market, the Volvo EX40 and the Toyota bZ4X, accounted for less than half of Model 3 sales — at 901 and 833 vehicles, respectively.
Tesla introduced the refreshed Model Y in Europe a year ago.
In October, it launched a more affordable, Standard version — since then renamed to Rear-Wheel Drive — priced from NOK 389,990 ($40,100).
The Model 3 Standard also debuted in European markets late last year, reducing the sedan’s entry-level price to NOK 299,990 ($30,900).
Until March 31, customers were offered 0% APR if purchasing any of the Premium Model Y variants, with a 2.74% effective interest rate, and a 1.99% APR if opting for any trim of the Model 3 sedan.
Both Model 3 Premium and Performance trims and all variants of the Model Y were also eligible for a ‘Tesla Bonus’ of NOK 50,000 ($5,200).
The company began registering China-manufactured Model Ys for the quarter on February 24.
Norway is not a European Union member, meaning it does not apply the bloc’s tariffs on Chinese EV imports, imposed in October 2024.
This allows Tesla to source vehicles from both its European factory in Germany — where the company produces the best-selling Model Y — and from the GigaShanghai — where both the Model 3 and Model Y are manufactured.
Sweden
In Sweden, Tesla’s sales rebounded in March to their highest level in 15 months, despite facing a union blockade for over two years.
In January, Tesla posted its first year-over-year increase in over twelve months, with 512 vehicles sold.

February saw a sequential rise to 553 units, though the figure was still 10% below the same month a year earlier.
Last month, however, Tesla registered 1,784 vehicles in the Swedish market, nearly doubling from the 911 units sold in March 2025.
The quarterly total reached 2,849 units — the best quarter since late 2024 and a 33.3% increase from the 2,132 vehicles registered a year before.
The first months of 2025 coincided with a sharp drop in Tesla registrations across Europe, driven by backlash against Elon Musk’s political activities and the production transition from the outgoing Model Y to the redesigned version.
The Elon Musk-led company sold only 7,252 vehicles in the Nordic country in 2025, a third of the 21,894 units registered in the previous twelve months.
Tesla was the sixth best-selling brand in Sweden in March; its Model Y was the top-selling model across all powertrains, however, moving 1,382 units.
The SUV starts at SEK 499,900 ($56,100) since the introduction of the Standard trim.
Tesla also offered 0% APR on Model Y and Model 3 purchases through March 31, along with a SEK 40,000 ($4,500) bonus for eligible customers.
The Model Y outsold Volvo’s XC/EX40, XC/EX60 and EX30 SUVs — which combine plug-in hybrid and fully electric variants in Mobility Sweden‘s figures and have led the market for most of the past months.
Union Conflicts
IF Metall maintains its demand for Tesla to sign collective bargaining agreements covering wage increases, working hours, and pensions — standard practice among automotive companies operating in the country.
However, the Elon Musk-led company has found ways to work around the blockades.
A new service center is under construction and the company has recently renewed its contract to store vehicles at the Trelleborg port.
The blockade also affects vehicle charging, as work to connect the charging stations to the power grid has been blocked for nearly two years.
Despite this, Tesla managed to open several new Supercharging stations last year in Malmö and Södertälje.
Denmark
According to Bilstatistik, Tesla registered 1,447 vehicles in Denmark in March — more than double the 593 units recorded a year earlier.

The company’s sales in the Scandinavian country have more than tripled from February.
First-quarter registrations reached 2,324 vehicles, a 50% increase year over year.
Tesla‘s Danish sales typically start slow at the beginning of each quarter and surge in the final month.
Over the past twelve months, registrations only surpassed 1,000 units in the last month of each quarter — with September and December 2025 both exceeding 2,000 vehicles.
