Changan is expanding the offer of the Deepal S05 SUV with a plug-in hybrid powertrain to complement the electric motor already available. The new powertrain combines a 172 kW permanent magnet synchronous electric motor with a 1,500 cc four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 63 kW, for a maximum system output of 190 kW transmitted to the front wheels. The heat engine can also work as a generator, recharging the battery without, however, moving the wheels. The result is an autonomy of 100 km in electric mode for a range of up to 1,000 km in total.

Fast charging to go from 30 to 80 per cent in just 15 minutes
The electric motor is powered by an 18.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery that can be recharged in alternating current up to 11 kW as well as supporting 55 kW fast charging to go from 30 to 80 per cent charge in 15 minutes. There is also a Vehicle to Load function that allows the car battery to be used as an external power source for recharging laptops, e-bikes, portable refrigerators or camping equipment. A solution now adopted in new-generation SUVs as well as being particularly popular with outdoor car users.

The boot increases capacity from 522 litres to 1,310 litres
The new Deepal S05 plug-in hybrid retains the same measurements as the electric variant: 4,598 mm in length and 2,880 mm in wheelbase, numbers that also allow ample space for rear passengers. Compared to the electric variant, the plug-in configuration increases boot capacity from 552 litres to 1,310 litres with the seats folded down. On the safety front, the Phev also offers 17 driver assistance systems as standard, a feature that earned the electric version a five-star rating from the Euro NCPA.

All technical specifications and prices available at launch
Further details regarding all technical specifications as well as list prices of the plug-in hybrid version will be announced at the time of the launch, which is scheduled, as mentioned, in May. The new Changan Deepal S05 plug-in hybrid has been designed with a special focus on the European market. It is no coincidence that the Deepal S05 has an Italian soul, given that the design originates in Rivoli in Piedmont, Italy, with the addition of the research and development centre in Birmingham, England, as well as the support of other centres in China, Germany, Japan and North America.
