Two teenagers have been seriously injured after their e-bike collided with a car at a busy intersection on Sunday night.

Emergency services rushed to the intersection of the Pacific Highway and Evans Street at Belmont in Lake Macquarie about 8.30pm after reports of a crash.

Lake Macquarie police officers were told an e-bike had collided with the side of a Holden station wagon, according to a NSW Police statement.

The crash caused the teenage boys, both aged 14, to be “thrown off the vehicle,” police said.

The pair were treated by paramedics for leg injuries and abrasions before being transported to John Hunter Hospital in serious but stable conditions.

The 45-year-old man driving the Holden was uninjured.

Police have launched an investigation into the crash.

The e-bike, which was destroyed on impact, has been seized for forensic examination.

Police are urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward by contacting Crime Stoppers via 1800 333 000 or the website.

It comes as NSW Police cracks down on illegal e-bikes.

In a two-day operation earlier in March, 170 fines were issued in Sydney’s south.

“Operation E-Voltage, a high-visibility e-bike operation, was conducted on Tuesday 17 March 2026 and Wednesday 18 March 2026 in the Sutherland Shire, South Sydney and Eastern Beaches Police Area Commands,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“The operation focused on disrupting and reducing the illegal and dangerous use of non-compliant e-bikes and associated anti-social behaviour, particularly among young people.”
