Traded in my 6-month-old Fangchengbao (BYD) Bao-5 for a 2026 Fangchengbao Bao-8 flagship version. The one with the triple diff locks, night vision, Huawei ADS 4.0 (not that I care all that much), intelligent DISUS-P+ hydraulic suspension, and zero gravity rear seats.

The Bao-5 was a lovely car. Very fast, powerful, extremely rugged, built like a tank, comfortable, reliable, and served me very well in this huge country. But I always lusted after the bigger Bao-8, so it was just a matter of time until I traded it in for one. After receiving my CNY bonus, I thought I might as well do it now while I can still get a good trade-in value for my fairly new car.

This is a slightly unusual type of EV than what's normally posted on here. It's a tall, large, body-on-frame electric-biased PHEV (its 2.0 turbo engine mostly acts as a generator) luxury off-roading SUV. Its closest analogue would be something like a Land Cruiser 300, Nissan Patrol LH, Lexus LX700H, GWM Tank 500/700, Zhonghen (Cherry) G700.

It'll get delivered to my house (which is in another city) either tomorrow or Monday. I couldn't be arsed to drive this behemoth home during rush hour Hangzhou traffic on my first drive!

From a short test drive/familiarisation, it's shockingly fast for a car of this size and weight. It has some body roll, as expected from a tall, body-on-frame off-roading SUV. Quickest car I've ever been in. Interior quality/materials/build is superb. As if the entire thing is made of solid chunks of granite (clad in the finest Nappa leather). No squeaks or rattles. And it just steamrolls over every obstacles.
