Hyundai’s CEO José Muñoz confirmed that the company will reveal all-new versions of the Tucson and the Elantra later this year. The reveals will likely take place overseas, with North American models following sometime in 2027. The Tucson and Elantra will be joined by a new plug-in-hybrid model in 2027, as well as a mid-size body-on-frame pickup before 2030.

Hyundai plans to reveal new generations of the Tucson and the Elantra later this year, CEO José Muñoz announced in a letter to shareholders. In the letter, Muñoz explained that Hyundai doesn’t want to take a one-size-fits-all approach to its global strategy, and instead realizes that customers in different markets have different desires. The executive went on to lay out plans to launch an “all-new Tucson compact SUV and all-new Elantra sedan” in the company’s home market of South Korea.

While Muñoz didn’t explicitly link the two models to North America, we’d be shocked if the updated versions didn’t come to this side of the pond in 2027. Despite sedan sales waning across the board in North America, Hyundai still sold 148,200 Elantras in the United States last year. The Tucson performed even better, with Hyundai selling 234,230 in the U.S. alone, making it the brand’s bestseller in the U.S.

Assuming the revamped Tucson and Elantra make it to our shores, they’ll join a new plug-in-hybrid model that Muñoz promises will be introduced in 2027. Specifically, the executive referenced “Extended Range Electric Vehicles,” meaning that the new model will likely feature a large battery, with a small combustion engine serving as a generator. The wording also makes us think this powertrain could make its way into multiple vehicles.

Following that, Hyundai is doubling down on its decision to launch its first mid-size body-on-frame pickup, which it plans to do before the end of the decade. Details on the pickup are light, though we’d be surprised if it didn’t end up related to the Kia Tasman pickup that launched in late 2024.
