Nearly 100,000 Volkswagen and Cupra electric cars are being recalled due to battery problems that could lead to loss of range or even fire, writes EVArena.
Volkswagen has announced a massive recall of 94,031 cars worldwide, including 74,579 ID-series and 19,452 Cupra Born. The largest number of such cars is in Germany: 22,182 Volkswagens and 5,976 Cupra.

The recall is due to a problem with the battery packs under the floor of the car. If one pack is faulty, it could reduce range or cause overheating, increasing the risk of fire.
The recall affects Volkswagen models such as ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo, manufactured between June 24, 2023 and August 23, 2024. For the Cupra Born, the affected cars were manufactured from February 27, 2022 to April 21, 2024.

The repair process involves checking the battery modules, installing a software update, and replacing faulty units. The software acts as a “digital doctor” that monitors the battery’s health and alerts you to problems.
By the way, this is not the first time in 2026. In January, Volkswagen recalled 43,881 ID.4s in the US due to overheating batteries.
Volkswagen notes that battery issues are part of the transition to electric vehicles. Owners of such cars are advised to closely monitor recall notices, as timely maintenance is safer than risking a breakdown or fire.
