Hey everyone,
I’m hoping to get some guidance from people who know these cars better than we do.
My dad owns a 1971 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 (numbers/parts matching). Unfortunately, he has developed severe dementia and is no longer able to drive, so our family has made the difficult decision to sell the car.
We’re trying to figure out what a fair ballpark value might be, but we’re getting a pretty wide range online and don’t have much experience with classic car pricing.
From what I’ve seen, these cars can vary a lot depending on condition, originality, and documentation. Some recent sales seem to be anywhere from around $50k USD up to well over $100k+ for higher-end examples, with exceptional cars even reaching close to $200k at auction. That said, we’re not sure where ours would realistically fall in that range.
We’re also located in Newfoundland, Canada, which adds another layer of complexity in terms of finding buyers and transporting the vehicle.
If anyone here has experience with W-30 cars or the current market, we’d really appreciate:
A rough value range based on typical conditions
What factors matter most (documentation, originality, etc.)
Any advice on selling from a more remote location
Happy to share more details or photos if that helps.
Thanks in advance, really appreciate any insight.
