The updated Mercedes-Maybach S-Class brings MB.OS to the nameplate for the first time alongside new mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains
Mercedes-Benz has revealed the most extensively updated Mercedes-Maybach S-Class in the model’s history, with orders opening in Europe from 25 March 2026 and series production at the Sindelfingen plant beginning in April 2026. The update introduces the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) to a Maybach model for the first time, paired with fourth-generation Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) software featuring a redesigned Zero Layer and a generative AI-powered virtual assistant drawing on ChatGPT 4o, Microsoft Bing Search and Google Gemini.

The powertrain range has been re-engineered across all variants. The S 680 receives an updated eight-cylinder engine producing 450 kW plus 17 kW from a mild-hybrid integrated starter-generator, with torque of 850 Nm plus 205 Nm, bringing output level with the outgoing V12 unit; the V12 remains available in selected markets. The S 580 e plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) uses a revised six-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor, offering around 100 km of electric-only range and a system output increase of up to 55 kW over the previous generation.
Exterior changes include an enlarged radiator grille, illuminated Maybach wordmark, rose-gold headlamp accents, and forged wheels featuring a ball-bearing-mounted central star that remains upright while the wheel rotates. Inside, a leather-free interior option is offered for the first time, using Mirville mélange textile alongside ARTICO man-made leather. The updated AIRMATIC air suspension uses real-time Car-to-X data to predictively adjust damping.
“With the launch of the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, this legacy continues with new levels of exclusivity and comfort,” said Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG. “Mercedes-Maybach is an important strategic pillar in expanding our top-end segment.”
