JAKARTA – Geely officially presents the latest version of the Galaxy Starshine 8 plug-in hybrid sedan in the Chinese market. This model is marketed starting at 142,800 yuan with a variety of updates, ranging from LiDAR-based driving assistance technology, active suspension, to performance improvements that reach 300 kW (402 hp) and an electric range of up to 225 km.
The first Starshine 8 was launched in May 2025 in China and is available in seven variants with a price range of 125,800 to 165,800 yuan. Based on data from China EV DataTracker, reported on Monday, March 23, this model recorded domestic sales of 80,462 units, with peak sales reaching 10,191 units in October 2025.
However, distribution performance has weakened in recent months. In February 2026, unit shipments only reached 3,033 vehicles. This condition prompted Geely to immediately present a version of the refresh to boost its competitiveness in the market.
In appearance, the latest Geely Galaxy Starshine 8 still retains the previous aerodynamic exterior design with a water droplet-like silhouette, low hood lines, hidden door handles, and two-level headlights.
The visual update comes in two new colors called “Sunny Gold” and “Danxia Mine”, which are inspired by the typical Danxia red rock landscape. One of the significant updates lies in the presence of a LiDAR sensor on the roof that is part of the G-Pilot H5 driving assistance system.
This technology was developed by Afari Technology – a company backed by Geely with a 3 percent stake owned by Mercedes-Benz. The ADAS system is only available on the highest variant, with hardware support in the form of LiDAR, three millimeter wave radars, 11 cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, and powered by the Nvidia Drive Orin chip with 254 TOPS capabilities.
The G-Pilot H5 feature enables the Automatic Navigation (NOA) function on urban roads and toll roads. In addition, this system is also capable of performing automatic search and parking without the need for previously loaded maps.
Similar technology has previously been used on Geely’s flagship SUV Galaxy M9. In terms of dimensions, the sedan has a length of 5,018 mm, a width of 1,918 mm, a height of 1,480 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,928 mm.
The interior is equipped with an LCD instrument panel and a large touch screen integrated with the Flyme Auto 2 OS system, just like the one used on the Galaxy M9. This system presents an AI-based voice assistant, multi-application features on one screen, and compatibility with about 90 percent of smartphones.
Other features that are also embedded include a head-up display and the Flyme Sound audio system with 23 speakers. For the engine, the standard variant carries a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine combined with an electric motor with a total output of 257 kW (345 hp) and a fuel consumption of 3.32 liters per 100 km.
Meanwhile, the high-performance variant uses the latest EM-P plug-in hybrid system which combines a 1.5-liter turbo engine with an electric motor, producing a combined power of 300 kW (402 hp) and 605 Nm of torque.
For comparison, the previous model was available in two options, namely EM-i with 257 kW (345 hp) and EM-P with 280 kW (375 hp). In the latest version, the Starshine 8 EM-P is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.35 seconds with a fuel consumption of 3.41 liters per 100 km.
The EM-P powertrain option will be offered as an add-on at an undisclosed price. Other updates lie in the battery sector. If previously there was an option of 8.5 kWh and 18.4 kWh with an electric range of 60 to 130 km (CLTC), the latest version is now equipped with a 28.3 kWh battery.
As a result, the EM-i variant is able to travel up to 225 km in full electric mode. DC fast charging up to 75 kW allows charging from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes.
Overall, the Geely Galaxy Starshine 8 offers a combined mileage of up to 1,725 km. This sedan is also equipped with a continuous damper suspension system to improve driving comfort.
