The large SUV segment is incredibly competitive, but finding a genuine seven-seater that doesn’t completely drain your bank account – or guzzle gas on the school run – is a surprisingly tough task. Fortunately, the rapidly growing MG brand is stepping up to the plate to change the game. The automaker has officially revealed the MGS9 PHEV, its very first seven-seat, large SUV.
With an aggressive starting price of just £34,205 (on-the-road in the UK), the MGS9 is poised to become a massive disruptor in the family vehicle market. It combines a highly efficient plug-in hybrid powertrain with an abundance of premium technology, wrapping it all in a cavernous, versatile cabin.
Massive Space and Versatility

When it comes to family haulers, interior space is the ultimate luxury. The MGS9 PHEV delivers an abundance of head, leg, and shoulder room inside its sprawling 4.98-meter-long bodyshell. Designed with larger families in mind, the SUV features three rows of seating.
However, MG knows that versatility is just as important as passenger count. To make the interior as flexible as possible, the third row of seats can be folded individually, while the second row features a standard 60:40 split. When you fold that third row flat to use the MGS9 as a traditional five-seater, it opens up a cavernous 1,026 liters of boot space – more than enough room for holiday road trips, hauling large dogs, or making massive grocery runs.
62 Miles of Electric-Only Range
Under the hood, the MGS9 utilizes the same proven plug-in hybrid technology found in the multi-award-winning MG HS PHEV. The powertrain pairs a punchy 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine with a large 24.7kWh battery pack.

This setup allows the massive SUV to achieve an impressive electric-only driving range of up to 62 miles. For most drivers, that is more than enough range to handle daily commutes, school drop-offs, and local errands without ever burning a single drop of fuel. When the battery depletes, the 65-liter petrol tank kicks in to completely eliminate range anxiety on longer journeys.
Better yet, the highly efficient powertrain produces remarkably low CO2 emissions of just 18g/km, making it an incredibly smart financial choice for company car drivers. It isn’t a slouch when it comes to utility, either, boasting a maximum braked towing limit of 2,000 kg for pulling boats, horseboxes, or caravans.
