Due to the unstable global environment caused by the war prevailing in the middle east region, Sri Lanka as a country possessing a small – scale open economy has been exposed to various impacts on its economic sector.
Therefore, it is essential to take immediate and progressive measures regarding the unprecedented risks encountered by Sri Lanka, ensure stabilizing market conditions
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished by the President to establish four (04) Committees as follows to provide appropriate recommendations in regard to immediate action to be taken for minimizing unfavourable impacts that influence the domestic economy and community life due to global instability.
Committee Activities
Committee of Energy – Chaired by the Minister of foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism : Taking procurement actions required for purchase of fuel, gas and coal to stabilize supply, Recognizing new supply sources and new suppliers.
Committee for maintaining the Public Service properly – chaired by the Prime Minister: Taking hasty decisions and supply required services for public for maintaining economic activities undisturbed, efficient and systematically
Committee for supervising the distribution
of essential services – chaired by the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development: Maintaining the government and private supply chains for distribution of essential goods continuously and ensure supply of goods on fair prices without market shortage to the public
Committee to provide welfare for various social strata – Chaired by the Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and
Community Empowerment : Recognizing the problems and impacts in daily life, taking immediate action accordingly coordinating with necessary institutions.
