SNYDERVILLE, Utah (KUTV) — A 13-year-old boy is expected to survive his injuries after being struck by a box truck on a Snyderville roadway.
Summit County Sheriff Sgt. Skyler Talbot said deputies responded to the intersection of Kilby Road and 2200 West just after 11 p.m. Friday following reports of an electric motorcycle crash involving a boy who had been hit by an oncoming truck.
According to officials, two 13-year-old boys were riding electric motorcycles in the area when their handlebars collided, causing them to lose control and crash in the intersection.
One boy was injured and lying partly in the travel lanes of Kilby Road, while the other was able to get up and move out of the roadway.
A truck passing boy noticed the scene and stopped to help the boys. The driver parked their vehicle and activated its forward-facing spotlight to illuminate the area. They then removed the injured boy from the roadway, while the second boy walked back into the road to retrieve one of the bikes.
While in the roadway, officials said a box truck traveling on Kilby Road ran over both the boy and the e-motorcycle. The boy was transported to a Salt Lake area hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.
Sgt. Talbot said the driver of the box truck reported that the bright spotlight blinded their view of the boy and the bike. Authorities confirmed that alcohol impairment is not suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash at this time.
All parties are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
