This is the new Jaecoo 8, the third model to be launched by this Chinese brand since it set up shop in the UK back in 2024. It’s packing lots of impressive stats on paper, but something about it seems incredibly familiar.

Jaecoo is taking the UK by storm at the moment. The Jaecoo 7 is one of the best-selling cars out there at the moment, and the smaller Jaecoo 5 was the most popular Chinese car on Carwow in February 2026.

Well now it’s launched a new model. This is the Jaecoo 8, and it’s a large, seven-seat, plug-in hybrid SUV which takes on cars like the Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90. Let’s take a closer look.

Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

New Jaecoo 8 design: deja vu

You might be looking at the new Jaecoo 8 and thinking “hang on a second, this looks awfully familiar”.

Well you’re not alone, just look at this new car next to the Chery Tiggo 9. They’re pretty much identical from the rear. This comes as no real surprise, both cars come from Chery International, but with a design this similar it’s going to be very hard to choose between them.

There are some differences to tell them apart, most notably at the front end. The Jaecoo 8 has a more rounded nose and softer curves than the pointy Tiggo 9, which comes as a surprise when you look at the boxy design of the Jaecoo 5 and 7.

The Jaecoo 8 has black trim around the windows in place of the chrome you get on the Chery, making it look a bit more sporty. The two-tone wheels also add to this, as does the contrasting black roof and more aggressive-looking rear bumper.

New Jaecoo 8 interior: the most obvious changes are inside

Unlike the exterior, the Jaecoo 8’s cabin is completely different to the Chery Tiggo 9’s. Those square vents put us in mind of the Mercedes GLS, as does the twin-screen setup atop the dashboard.

It’s a classy-looking cabin, and it gets even posher in the back. Unlike the Chery Tiggo 9, the Jaecoo 8 is available as a six-seater with two individual captain’s chairs in the middle row. They recline with footrests for the ultimate road trip nap, and you even have heated, ventilated and massaging seats in the back.

A seven-seater version of the Jaecoo 8 is still an option with a traditional bench seat in the rear, but the six-seater option is the main reason to buy this car over a Chery Tiggo 9.

New Jaecoo 8 engines and performance

Under the bonnet of the Jaecoo 8 is the same 1.5-litre petrol plug-in hybrid system as the Chery Tiggo 9, which means it has plenty of power.

You get 428hp going to all four wheels, and 0-62mph takes just 5.8 seconds. That’s around the same as a Volkswagen Golf GTI hot hatch, but it’s also 0.4 of a second slower than the Tiggo 9.

What’s more important than straight-line speed is the all-electric range, because the Jaecoo 8 will do up to 83 miles in electric-only mode. That’s only beaten by the Omoda 9 in this class.

New Jaecoo 8 price and specs

The new Jaecoo 8 starts from £45,500 in seven-seat guise, or £47,500 if you go for the rear captain’s chairs. That makes it a whopping £27,000 cheaper than an Audi Q7, and around £17,000 less than a Volvo XC90.

And it’s not like you’re short-changed on standard equipment either. All cars get heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, twin 12.3-inch screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic glass sunroof and adaptive cruise control.

The six-seater model also gets Nappa leather and heated, ventilated and massaging second-row seats. There are no optional extras to add on. You simply choose six or seven seats, pick a colour and you’re done.

And this is where Chinese brands really shine: simplicity. No wading through pages of options, no spending thousands of pounds extra to get the car you really want. What you see is what you get, and that’s what makes cars like the Jaecoo 8 so appealing.
