Tesla has officially opened its first public Megacharger station for the Tesla Semi electric truck in Ontario, California. The new charging hub, located at a BP Pulse commercial electric vehicle charging depot, can deliver up to 750 kW of power to Tesla Semis, allowing them to be recharged in under 45 minutes. This marks a significant step forward for Tesla’s heavy-duty electric trucking efforts, as the Semi has previously only been able to charge at private, closed-loop facilities.
Why it matters
The deployment of this public Megacharger station is a critical milestone for the Tesla Semi program. Until now, the Semi has been limited to charging at private corporate facilities, restricting its ability to handle long-haul interstate trucking routes. This new public charging hub in Ontario, California lays the groundwork for the Semi to be adopted more widely by fleet operators, as they will now have access to high-speed charging infrastructure along major transportation corridors.
The details
The new Megacharger station is located at 4265 E Guasti Rd in Ontario, close to the local airport. It features two 750 kW Tesla MCS (Megawatt Charging System) pull-through bays exclusively for the Tesla Semi, installed alongside four 400 kW CCS pull-through bays for other electric heavy-duty trucks. The MCS charging technology is proprietary to the Tesla Semi and not compatible with other electric trucks. At 750 kW, the Megachargers can recharge a Tesla Semi’s battery from 20% to 80% in under 45 minutes, dramatically reducing downtime for fleet operators.
Tesla officially opened the first public Megacharger station for the Tesla Semi on March 9, 2026.
