Designed to deliver exceptionally smooth, consistent golf greens while boosting operator efficiency and productivity without noise or noxious fumes, the all-new Toro GreensPro e1700 promises to redefine commercial greens keeping.
Broad, even fairways and smooth, fast putting greens don’t happen by accident. They take a lot of work, and golf course superintendents and grounds crews rely on specialized equipment to get it done. That list of equipment includes greens rollers – machines that physically resemble zero-turn riding mowers and used to gently compress the turf and create the consistent putting surfaces golfers expect. It is to that end that the groundskeeping experts at Toro have released the all-new GreensPro e1700.
“When it comes to productivity, superintendents are going to see a significant increase in what they can achieve with the GreensPro e1700,” said Nate Fisher, product marketing manager at Toro. “From the wider rolling width to the SmartHitch transport, it’s designed for maximum efficiency and helping teams cover more ground faster. The virtually silent operation is also a game-changer for those essential early morning rolling shifts.”
The GreensPro e1700 features a three-roller configuration for optimal surface coverage and consistent ground contact across the entire rolling width. Each roller is driven by an independent electric motor, allowing for automatic speed adjustments during turns and stops in a way that actively prevents green scuffing and scrubbing of the green during tight turns.

As for the SmartHitch that Fisher mentioned, Toro eliminates the need for traditional separate trailers or pull-over drawbars, improving the speed and ease of transport for the new GreensPro e1700. You can see it in action in Toro’s overview video, below.

Toro’s newest greens roller is powered by a pair of advanced, HyperCell lithium-ion battery packs with 2.3 kWh of capacity each. That’s expandable to four 2.3 kWh packs for a combined 9.2 kWh of power – enough to roll up to eighteen greens before swapping them out.
This kind of real-world capability highlights the truth of the landscaping industry’s situation: internal combustion is no longer needed, and that eliminating ICE-powered tools is something that, as our own Peter Johnson identified, needs to be made a larger priority. Peter cited EPA data that showed gas-powered lawnmowers making up five percent of the total air pollution in the US (despite covering far less than 5% of the total miles driven on that gas).
“Moreover,” he writes, “it takes about 800 million gallons of gasoline each year (with an additional 17 million gallons spilled) to fuel this equipment.”
