BYD Shows Insane 5 Minute Charging with New Blade Battery
BYD has revealed its second generation Blade battery and it may completely change how quickly electric vehicles charge. With the ability to charge from 10 percent to 70 percent in just 5 minutes and reach 97 percent in under 10 minutes, this technology could redefine electric vehicle convenience.
The company also introduced its powerful Flash charging stations capable of delivering up to 1,500 kilowatts. In a real world demonstration, a Denza Z9GT and Yangwang U7 charged from 9 percent to 97 percent in under 10 minutes while gaining more than 1,000 kilometers of driving range according to the China Light Duty Test Cycle.
This breakthrough could make electric vehicle charging feel much closer to filling a gasoline car. Even more impressive, the battery performed in freezing conditions as low as minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit while still maintaining extremely fast charging speeds.
BYD also highlighted the safety of its Blade battery design through rigorous testing including nail penetration demonstrations designed to simulate extreme battery damage. The battery pack showed no signs of catching fire, meeting China’s strict safety requirements.
The technology is expected to appear in around 10 production vehicles including the Yangwang U7, Denza Z9GT, Seal 07, and Sealion 06. If these claims hold up in real world driving, this could represent one of the most important advancements in electric vehicle charging in years.
