Picked up my new Renault 4 E-Tech Iconic in Diamond Black this week and I’m genuinely impressed!

It’s my first EV, so I did a lot of research and test drives beforehand to find the right one, and so far I am chuffed with the R4. It’s the 52 kWh version with around 150 hp (110 kW) and 245 Nm of torque. 0–62 mph is around the 8 second mark with a top speed of 93mph.

Official range is up to roughly 250 miles, which for my use case should be fine, albeit it seems around 200 from charge is far more realistic. I got a Easee One home charger installed, and on AC it’ll take up to 11 kW, while DC rapid charging peaks around 100 kW – Renault quotes 15–80% in about 30 minutes on a suitable charger.

The Iconic trim makes it feel rather premium without going overboard, and I really like the cabin space an it’s brimming with tech. You get the larger openR link infotainment with Google built-in, digital driver display, heated seats and steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, and a full suite of driver assists. The cabin design is modern but still practical, with decent rear space and a boot space of 420 litre mark, and it’s a really useable compact SUV.

Diamond Black suits it perfectly – subtle and classy in low light, but with real depth in the sun. The one pedal driving is really clever and easy to adapt to.

Overall, it feels like a well-engineered, thoughtfully packaged EV that nods to the heritage of the old Renault 4 while being completely modern underneath. As a first step into electric ownership, I couldn’t have picked a better way to do it. Happy to answer questions if anyone’s considering one!
