TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – The University of Arizona is addressing a concerning string of e-bike thefts on campus, highlighted by an incident involving a suspect and law enforcement on Monday.

On Feb., a bystander reported an e-bike theft in progress at the University Services Building. Officer Drake, who was nearby, responded immediately.

Body-worn camera footage shows Officer Drake confronting an individual attempting to cut the lock off an electric bicycle with bolt cutters. During the encounter, the individual ingested several blue pills and attempted to flee.

Officer Drake administered life-saving intervention medication, NARCAN, to counteract the effects of the narcotics. The individual received medical attention from UAEMS and the Tucson Fire Department before being released from the hospital and booked into the Pima County Jail.

The university’s Office of Public Safety urges the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to e-bike thefts.
