Flying cars could soon dock at vertiports, rather than airports or parking garages, and Japan has come up with some that are incredibly cool.
After seemingly being a dream for decades, flying cars do appear to be more common and becoming a reality – and if they become more popular, they will need somewhere to land.
A company called Skyportz has come up with an incredible design, the Aeroberm.
The safety-assured landing zones could soon be taking off in a big way in Japan.

How the new vertiports work
The new vertiports are the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) equivalent of a conventional airport.
Skyportz is a leader in the field, and it patented the Aeroberm vertiport for flying cars.
The design responds to new guidelines brought in by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
These requested wider downwash/outwash areas in the infrastructure, and certain vertiport sizes were outlawed.
That is how Skyportz came to develop the Aeroberm.
It is a modular concept that can reduce wind velocity by 250 percent.
The new design is also able to allow quick responses to any battery fires and keep noise to a minimum.
Of the countries interested in the new vertiport, Japan appears to be incredibly keen.

Japan is very keen on the new flying car airports
Skyportz has come to an agreement with Tokyo-based company AirMobility.
It marks the debut of the Aeroberm in Japan, alongside another development, AirVport.
This is not the first Aeroberm product to debut in Asia, but it might be the most impressive.
Effectively, these are like helipads, but for electric flying cars or eVTOLs.
Standing for electric-vertical takeoff or landing, these vehicles will land on top of the new vertiports.
Another company, EHang, has developed a vertiport in China specifically for an autonomous eVTOL.
The process to get the aircraft onto the port for takeoff is also fully automated.
Electric vertical take-off aircraft and cars are still in their infancy.
But they are becoming more popular, and may revolutionize short-distance travel.
