Volkswagen Australia has confirmed pricing for two new plug-in hybrid SUVs. The Tiguan eHybrid and Tayron eHybrid will arrive in the second quarter of 2026.
Both models use a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The system produces either 150kW or 200kW depending on the variant. A 19.7kWh battery provides 113 to 117km of electric-only range under WLTP testing. These figures place both models well-above the 65km average for PHEVs.
The vehicles support AC charging up to 11kW and DC fast charging up to 40kW. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 1.6 to 1.8 litres per 100km.
Tiguan eHybrid Pricing and Specifications
The Tiguan eHybrid is available in two variants. The 150TSI eHybrid Elegance costs $64,590. The 200TSI eHybrid R-Line is priced at $74,550. All prices include GST.
The Tiguan eHybrid seats five people and offers 490 litres of luggage space.

Tayron eHybrid Pricing and Specifications
The Tayron eHybrid is the larger of the two models. The 150TSI eHybrid Elegance starts at $62,390. The 200TSI eHybrid R-Line costs $76,550.
The Tayron offers 705 litres of boot space, significantly more than the Tiguan. It uses the same plug-in hybrid system with identical electric range and charging capabilities.
Key plug-in-hybrid competitors include the BYD Sealion 5 (from $33,990), Leapmotor C10 (from $43,888), Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (from $57,290) and GWM Haval H6GT Ultra PHEV (from $55,990).

Charging and Efficiency
Both models can charge at home using an 11kW AC charger or at public DC fast chargers up to 40kW. The 19.7kWh battery is larger than many competitors in this segment.
The electric range of 113 to 117km covers most daily commutes. This allows drivers to use electric power for local trips and switch to hybrid mode for longer journeys.
Impact on the Australian Market
The Australian plug-in hybrid SUV market has grown tremendously in recent years. Chinese brands like BYD and GWM have introduced competitive PHEV models at lower price points while offering comparable features.
It will be interesting to see the take up of these models given their higher price point than their Chinese competition.
Volkswagen’s pricing positions both models just above their petrol equivalents. The eHybrid variants cost approximately $8,000 to $10,000 more than comparable petrol models.
