WASHINGTON (7News) — D.C. police said they have identified the driver of a garbage truck who is accused of fleeing the scene of a crash in the Northwest area, where a man was killed, and a woman was badly hurt after being run over on their electric bike last week.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), officers were called around 2:06 p.m. on Feb. 13 to a crash in the 4100 block of Kansas Avenue, NW, near Georgia Avenue and Upshur Street in the Petworth neighborhood.
When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman who had both been riding an e-bike suffering from injuries. D.C. Fire and EMS paramedics took the woman, who was the passenger on the bike, to a hospital in critical condition.

The man, identified as Kenny Jimmenez Rivera, 26, of Northwest D.C., was pronounced dead at the scene after lifesaving efforts failed.
MPD officials say its Major Crash Investigations Unit determined the trash truck and the e-bike were traveling northeast on Kansas Avenue and came to the intersection with Upshur Street at the same time. Investigators say the truck made a right turn onto Upshur Street when the front right section of the vehicle hit the e-bike.

The driver did not remain at the scene.
With help from MPD’s Real Time Crime Center, the trash truck was later found in Hyattsville, Maryland, according to police. Detectives also said they identified the driver, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities previously reported both victims were women, but later corrected that the deceased victim was an adult male.
