SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) took a man into custody after they found him riding a stolen e-bike at night on the Legacy Trail. Deputies allegedly recovered suspicious items including a vest labeled “Police.”

The SCSO air unit spotted a suspicious person riding an e-bike along the Legacy Trail after park hours and directed deputies to them. When deputies located the man, they allegedly found discarded items nearby, including a reflective vest labeled “Police,” a ski mask, gloves, a glass breaker and paraphernalia.

Investigators determined the e-bike had been reported stolen. Further investigation revealed the man had an extraditable felony warrant out of California for a parole violation. Deputies also had said that he claimed to be a gang member.
