The move builds on the company’s $1.3 billion investment announced in 2024.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Car manufacturer Toyota is continuing to invest in Kentucky.
Gov. Andy Beshear announced during his Team Kentucky update Thursday Toyota will manufacture the all-electric 2027 Highlanders at its Georgetown, Kentucky plant.
Beshear said the Toyota development makes the Commonwealth a leader of vehicle production.
The move builds on the company’s $1.3 billion investment announced in 2024.
It also marks the first three-row battery-electric vehicle (BEV) Toyota will build for the U.S. market, according to the company. The vehicle will be available in two grades, the XLE and the Limited, and can serve as a mobile power source with vehicle-to-load technology.
The 2027 Highlander will be the fourth BEV in Toyota’s lineup; the other three are the Toyota bZ, bZ Woodland, and C-HR models, according to Toyota. The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Pricing (MSRP) has not yet been announced but sales are expected to begin in late 2026.
Beshear said the investment is another sign of long-term growth in Kentucky.
“This means that Kentucky workers will be making one of the company’s best known and top selling vehicles into the future,” the governor said. “I’m grateful that they continue to invest in our commonwealth, and I’m excited to see the newly designed EV Highlander.”
Beshear said since taking office, the state has gotten more than 1,300 private sector projects, totaling $45 billion in investment and 68,000 new jobs.
