NASCAR added to the Daytona 500 buzz by posting a heavy-hitting teaser just less than an hour before the cars take the track for qualifying. The video features a car covered by a cloth. This announcement is teased to happen on Feb 12. What could the announcement be? Fans seem to know the answer already.

Based on the body’s appearance and the fact that it is due to hit the market, fans expect this to be the NASCAR EV. In 2024, NASCAR began working with Formula E and the leading EV company, ABB, to create an EV car. Do not panic, though. This will not be the next car of the Cup Series, or any current NASCAR series.

NASCAR Targets Electric Cars, but Why?

The world is innovating. Electric cars have become increasingly popular over the past decade or so. NASCAR also owns IMSA, which has operated with hybrid-electric powertrains since 2023. They want to stay hip to the market.

Nobody expects an EV car to hit the NASCAR scene anytime soon and perhaps, never. If anything, an EV series has been speculated about. Could NASCAR aim to create a weekday series and/or a fourth series on its circuit? These are all questions we hope to have answered as we eagerly await more details tomorrow, or at least the ones we expect. Remember, this is expected, but speculative.

As for now, the EV car may be for show. NASCAR takes new steps toward innovation and showcases them on NASCAR’s biggest stage, the Daytona 500.

As speculation continues, we can’t confirm that the announcement will be as described. However, NASCAR fans are brilliant. People who love cars know cars. They can see an EV build hiding behind a cloth; it is too obvious. This is what some fans had to say:

” We hope its Dodge, and not the EV”

“Front end looks like a Cybertruck”

One fan speculated a longshot that it is an EV pace car.

Speaking of the Gen8 car, NASCAR expects to reach its new version over the next 2-3 years. Perhaps this could show what’s to come? We can have a discussion for paragraphs on end, but we will let you off easy today. Tomorrow will be interesting as we see what this is. Stay tuned for further updates on Thursday.
