According to the Oceanside Police Department, officers were on routine patrol around 12:11 a.m. near Coast Highway and Seagaze Drive when they found the man lying in the roadway with critical injuries.

Investigators say it appears the man had been riding an e-bike when he sustained severe trauma, including major head trauma and upper body injuries. Oceanside Fire Department crews responded to the scene and transported him to Scripps La Jolla for emergency medical treatment.

Due to the extent of his injuries, the department’s Traffic Safety Unit has taken over the investigation. Authorities say it’s no yet clear whether any other vehicles or individuals were involved.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Traffic Investigator Kevin Lissner at 760-435-4651.
