We were right about Toyota’s teaser from a couple of weeks ago: the Japanese automaker is preparing to introduce its first-ever three-row electric SUV real soon. In fact, the official debut is set for this Tuesday, February 10.

On the eve of the big day, Toyota has also confirmed that the vehicle will be an evolution of the popular Highlander.

In case you weren’t aware, sales of the Highlander have taken a major drop since the launch of the roomier and more rugged-looking Grand Highlander. In order to give its venerable nameplate a new lease on life, the company has wisely decided to redesign the Highlander and position it as a direct competitor to the Kia EV9 and Hyundai IONIQ 9.

What will happen to the gasoline and hybrid powertrains? We’ll find out for sure during the unveiling. Toyota has long preferred to focus on its hybrid technology and offer consumers multiple options rather than going all-in on electric vehicles. It remains to be seen whether the battery option will be the only one available for the new Highlander.

Another picture reveals the interior, which Toyota describes as “a spacious three-row cabin with comfort for the whole crew.”

The dashboard, displays and steering wheel are more similar to those of the new 2026 RAV4 than the refreshed and upgraded 2026 bZ electric crossover, which is a good thing. The centre console, however, looks like nothing else. Expect the same state-of-the-art infotainment system as in the RAV4.

The fully electric Toyota Highlander will go on sale as a 2027 model. Check back on February 10 at 9:30 PM for more details and pictures.
