Revealed in Europe, the new Across pairs RAV4 DNA with a 300 hp PHEV system, rugged styling, and full compatibility with Toyota accessories

Suzuki’s New Across Is Literally Just As Good As Toyota’s RAV4

Suzuki Across returns as a RAV4-based SUV for European markets.

It uses a 300 hp plug-in hybrid powertrain with dual motors.

New model is virtually identical to the Toyota RAV4 Adventure.

Suzuki has revealed its latest Toyota RAV4 rival for Europe, confidently claiming it’s just as good as the original. Which, to be fair, isn’t much of a stretch when the new Across is quite literally a Toyota RAV4 in different clothes, complete with the same plug-in hybrid setup. Just like the last one, it sticks to the tried-and-true method of borrowing generously and changing as little as possible.

While the previous Across set itself apart from its RAV4 twin with a front fascia borrowed from the Chinese-market Toyota Wildlander, the updated model leans into the resemblance. It’s now virtually identical to the RAV4 Adventure, which goes by the name Woodland Edition in the US.

As a result, Suzuki skips over the Core and GR Sport trims available in the RAV4 lineup, choosing instead to adopt the rugged Adventure styling. This choice wasn’t just aesthetic. The reshaped grille of the Adventure model made it easier to accommodate the beefier Suzuki emblem without requiring further design overhauls.

And since it’s basically a one-to-one copy, every accessory made for the wildly popular RAV4 fits the Suzuki too.

The SUV measures 4,600 mm (181.1 inches) long and comes fitted with 18-inch wheels finished in dark gray. Suzuki keeps the exterior color choices simple, with four shades on offer: Massive Gray, Ever Rest, Super White, and Attitude Black.

Inside, the layout and design remain entirely Toyota, save for the Suzuki badge on the steering wheel. Standard features include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, and a 12.9-inch infotainment screen. There’s also wireless phone charging, five USB-C ports, and a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems.

Plug-in Power Only

Like its predecessor, the new Across is sold exclusively with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Suzuki has chosen not to offer the RAV4’s self-charging hybrid variant.

The setup comprises a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and dual electric motors producing a combined 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS). Power is transmitted to all four wheels via an E-CVT gearbox and the E-Four system. Furthermore, the driver has access to Normal Eco, Sport, and E-Four Trail modes.

Suzuki has yet to announce the WLTP range figure, but the EU-spec RAV4 PHEV can cover up to 100 km (62 miles) between charges thanks to a 22.7 kWh battery pack. What is interesting is that the Across completes the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in 6.1 seconds, while the RAV4 does it in 5.8 seconds, on paper, anyway.

Europe Gets One, Seychelles Gets Another

The new Suzuki Across debuted in the Netherlands and is expected to roll out across additional European markets later this year. Pricing has yet to be announced. Once launched, it will go up against several segment rivals, including the Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester, Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan X-Trail, Peugeot 5008, Skoda Kodiaq, and Volkswagen Tayron.

It’s also worth noting that Suzuki has launched a completely different Across in the Seychelles. That one’s a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Victoris, which means it’s smaller, entirely unrelated, and shares little more than the badge with Europe’s RAV4-based version. Apparently, one Across wasn’t confusing enough.
