Subaru Corporation begins battery electric vehicle production at Gunma Yajima Plant with E-Outback model. New mixed-model line manufactures BEVs alongside petrol and hybrid vehicles. E-Outback jointly developed with Toyota, arriving UK summer 2026.

Subaru Corporation has begun in-house production of battery electric vehicles at its Gunma Yajima Plant in Japan, with the all-new E-Outback becoming the first model to roll off the upgraded production line.

The facility upgrades, which began in August 2025, established a new mixed-model production line capable of manufacturing BEVs alongside petrol and hybrid vehicles on a single line.

The E-Outback is the second model in Subaru’s global BEV lineup and has been jointly developed with Toyota Motor Corporation. The alliance between the two companies, which began in 2005, marked its 20th anniversary in 2025.

The manufacturing developments have been achieved through cooperation between Subaru and Toyota in electrification, alongside advancements in Subaru’s monozukuri (manufacturing) capabilities.

Subaru says it will continue pursuing greater flexibility in manufacturing techniques to achieve efficient production and development, enhancing responsiveness to changes in market demand.

The E-Outback is set to arrive in the UK in summer 2026.
