PALM COAST — A 69-year-old Palm Coast man was killed Friday, Feb. 6, when the electric bike he was riding collided with a sedan driven by a 56-year-old Palm Coast woman.

The vehicle driven by the woman and a second vehicle driven by a 53-year-old Palm Coast man, were traveling west on Palm Coast Parkway approaching the intersection of Diandra Throughway at about 6:45 p.m. Friday.

The man riding the electric bicycle was heading south on Diandra Throughway, crossing through the intersection of Palm Coast Parkway.

As the man on the bicycle crossed Palm Coast Parkway, he failed to yield the right of way to the 56-year-old woman’s car, resulting in the front of his bicycle making contact with the right rear side of the woman’s sedan, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The bicyclist then separated from the bike and came to rest on the inside lane, according to the report. The SUV driven by the 53-year-old man, who was traveling directly behind the 56-year-old woman’s car, also collided with the bicycle.

The electric bike rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both of the cars that made contact with the bike stopped on the shoulders of Palm Coast Parkway. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and were not injured. A 14-year-old boy in the woman’s car was also not hurt.

This was the fourth traffic fatality in Volusia and Flagler counties since Thursday, Feb. 5. According to FHP, on Thursday, two people were killed, including a pedestrian, in a multi-vehicle wreck in Holly Hill near Flomich and Ridgewood avenues.

FHP says excessive speed was involved in that wreck.

On Friday in Ormond Beach, a pedestrian was hit and killed by a pickup while walking along S.R. 40 just west of Interstate 95, according to FHP.
