BLUF: My classic was intentionally scratched and I’m debating a DIY solution (such as Dr Colorchip) vs reporting it to my insurance.
Full story: I have a car that goes for around 30-50k on the market (I’m not disclosing details about the car or location in case the insurer sees this) and it was intentionally scratched on the lower driver’s door and chipped on the fender at a car meet. They had to be quick about it, so they’re small enough to look like rock chips or something rubbed against it, but too many marks popped up in a 3 hour span for it to be from the road or an accident. My question is, should I try to fix it with Dr. colorchip or another solution? Or should I report it to my classic insurer? What are the pros and cons as far as future valuations, policy best practices, lessons from experience, etc? It’s a driver, not a show car btw. I have no problems with anyone and never had any conflicts on the road since moving to this state. I’m hearing that there’s people that enjoy messing up others’ nice things. Thank you all for reading and any help you can provide.
