LOS ANGELES (KCAL/KCBS) – A pregnant mother who was riding e-bikes with her husband and children in Los Angeles died after she was hit by a car from behind, police say.
Regan Cole-Graham, a 36-year-old mother of two, is being remembered as a loving, funny and dedicated mother, wife and friend after her tragic death. She was 7 months pregnant and expecting a baby girl.
“So full of love and light. She just exuded love in everything that she did. She was the best mom,” friend Ashley Saglie said. “She was so excited to be a girl mom. She loved her boys fiercely, but I think having a third was just that missing piece for her family.”

Cole-Graham was riding an electric bike with her 3-year-old son in the saddle around 6 p.m. Saturday in the Playa del Rey neighborhood of Los Angeles. Her husband and other young son were riding along with them.
Los Angeles Police say a car driven by an 87-year-old driver hit Cole-Graham from behind, throwing her onto the roadway. The car then continued forward, rolling over her, police say.
Cole-Graham and her son were both rushed to the hospital, where the mother was pronounced dead. Police said hospital staff were able to deliver her unborn child, but the baby did not survive, according to family members.
Authorities did not provide an immediate update on the 3-year-old’s condition but said he was expected to survive.
The family’s attorney says something like this should never have happened, and Cole-Graham and her family were all wearing helmets with lights at the time of the crash.
People who live in the area say the intersection is dimly lit and dangerous for pedestrians.
“I think a lot needs to change. I think there needs to be better lighting and an expanded bike path,” Saglie said.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help Cole-Graham’s family with funeral expenses and to support her children. It had raised more than $205,000, as of early Wednesday.
Police say the driver involved in the incident remained at the scene. They do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
