So I finally bought a 2014 Honda Crosstour and… I genuinely love driving it. It looks way better in person than in photos, the V6 feels great, and every time I park it I catch myself looking back at it even tho it's still in boring grey. At this point I’m pretty sure I’m keeping it until it dies.

I actually thought about painting it red even before I bought the car, but now I’m seriously tempted to bite the bullet and do it. After a bunch of design iterations, I landed on a red-and-black two-tone look that I genuinely like and feel is a better take on how this car should look.

The rough plan (nothing done yet):

• Full 3-stage red paint job at Maaco, their top package. I’d prep the car myself first by removing trim, lights, badges, etc.
• Custom taillights, keeping the OEM housing. My idea is to 3D scan the lens and redesign it myself, then have a custom light shop handle the electronics and final assembly.
• Newer-gen facelift headlights (make the housing black) and grille, optionally side mirror turning lights from the Chinese market (the Crosstour had one more facelift there before being discontinued).
• Black wheels to pull the whole look together.
• Debadged back, putting the focus on the name 'CROSSTOUR'.

Mechanically, I’m also thinking about intake parts from Acura models to improve sound at high RPM and VTEC engagement. I want more character when I’m pushing it, but I don’t want it loud at low RPM, obnoxious outside, or doing those cheap fart noises.

So here’s where I want brutally honest feedback:
• Does the Crosstour still look like ass no matter what, or does this actually have potential? Or any other suggestions to the design choice?
• Is this a “Ambitious but fun passion project” or a financial black hole?
• Roughly how much would something like this realistically cost if done right (or on a budget)?

I’m not trying to make it a race car or flip it. This is more of a “drive it into the ground but make it mine” type of build. Curious what you all think.
