The 2026 C-HR is smaller than the bZ and was expected to be the most affordable EV in Toyota’s lineup, starting at under $35,000, but prices are slightly higher than anticipated.

The C-HR is back, and this time it’s fully electric. Toyota discontinued the gas-powered C-HR after the 2022 model year to make room for the more efficient, more practical Corolla Cross hybrid.

When Toyota unveiled the C-HR EV last May, it was widely viewed as a new entry-level crossover SUV, like the outgoing version, which started at under $25,000.

Although it was expected to start at around $30,000 to $35,000, Toyota’s newest EV will cost slightly more. Toyota announced prices for the 2026 C-HR start at $37,000. It’s available in two trims: SE and XSE, with the latter starting from $39,000.

With an MSRP of $37,000, the electric crossover is more expensive than the 2026 bZ, which starts at $34,900.

Why is the C-HR priced higher? It may be due to its standard all-wheel drive (AWD), compared with the bZ, which is available with front-wheel (FWD) and AWD powertrains.

The dual-motor setup delivers up to 338 hp, which Toyota says is good for a 0-60 mph time of about 5 seconds.

Powered by a 74.7 kWh battery, the 2026 C-HR is expected to have a driving range of up to 290 miles. It also includes a built-in NACS port for charging at Tesla Superchargers. According to Toyota, the electric SUV can recharge from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.

The C-HR EV is 177.9″ long, 72.6″ wide, and 63.8″ tall, or 6.7″ shorter than the bZ electric SUV. It’s about the size of the Kia Niro or Volvo EX30.

Inside, the crossover features an upgraded 14″ Toyota Audio Multimedia infotainment system with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Upgrading to the premium XSE adds 20″ gunmetal-finished wheels, SofTex and synthetic suede-trimmed seats, a Digital Rearview Mirror, and a Panoramic View Monitor.

Which one would you choose? The 2026 C-HR or bZ? You could also opt for the more rugged 2026 bZ Woodland, which starts at $45,300.
