• Unlike a recent poster, I don’t believe that the Republicans have suddenly reverted to being the party of the middle class and the Democratic party is now the party of wealth and privilege. The Democrats are as dysfunctional as always and the GOP, as they’ve been since the Gilded Age, are still, if not more so, very much the party of the uber-wealthy. On the other hand, I am old enough to remember when the GOP was an honorable, decent and respectable party.

• When you reach the advanced age of 96, each day is a gift. I am here to witness four great-grandchildren blossom: One will soon be a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, two will enter the tumultuous world of teenagers and a 2-year-old will bring joy each day to her loved ones. I am surrounded by a caring family, loving church, friends and neighbors.
