GAC has launched in Australia with the AION V electric SUV, M8 PHEV luxury MPV and EMZOOM, planning ten more models over five years
Chinese automaker GAC has officially entered the Australian market with three models spanning battery electric, plug-in hybrid and conventional petrol powertrains, launching what it calls its “GAC: Growing Australian Confidence” strategy at an event in Sydney on 18 November 2025. The company debuted the AION V electric SUV, the M8 PHEV luxury MPV and the EMZOOM SUV, and outlined plans to introduce more than ten additional vehicles across sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks and MPVs over the next five years.
The M8 PHEV is positioned as Australia’s first plug-in hybrid luxury MPV, targeting executive travel and premium family customers with a combination of electric performance and extended range capability. The AION V is a battery electric SUV that has achieved a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, aimed at family buyers seeking longer-range electric mobility and fast charging.
The EMZOOM rounds out the initial lineup as a conventionally powered SUV for younger, style-focused drivers. GAC’s five-year product plan is intended to establish a portfolio covering all major vehicle segments and powertrain technologies in Australia.
