The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i has launched in the UK as the automaker’s ninth model, offering up to 53 miles of electric range

BYD has confirmed UK pricing for the Sealion 5 DM-i plug-in hybrid SUV, with the range starting from £29,995 on the road for the Comfort trim and £32,995 for the Design specification. The vehicle is the automaker’s ninth model in the UK market and is available to order now, with showroom availability from 7 February.

The Sealion 5 DM-i pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to produce 212 PS. The Comfort trim features a 12.96 kWh battery providing over 38 miles of electric range, while the Design trim offers an 18.3 kWh battery extending electric range to 53 miles. Combined fuel and electric range reaches up to 631 miles.

In a statement, Steve Beattie, Deputy Country Manager of BYD UK, said: “The Sealion 5 strengthens the BYD line-up by offering our most accessible entry point into DM-i plugin hybrid technology to date. Its combination of meaningful electric-only range, outstanding efficiency and everyday usability is matched by a starting price that compares favourably against many similarly sized combustion-engine SUVs.”

BYD ended 2025 as the UK’s leading new emission vehicle manufacturer, covering both battery electric and plug-in hybrid sales.
