The fire at the Tesla facility in the East Valley resulted in damage to a Tesla Cybertruck.

MESA, Ariz. — The man arrested last year on suspicion of torching a Tesla service center in the East Valley has been sentenced to prison.

Ian Moses was sentenced Tuesday in federal court to five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to charges related to a fire reported at the Tesla facility near Southern Avenue and Sossaman Road in Mesa.

On April 28, 2025, a person dressed in a hooded sweatshirt was seen carrying a backpack and a gas can on the Tesla property. A fire was then ignited that resulted in the destruction of a Tesla Cybertruck.

Investigators also found the misspelled word “THEIF” spray-painted on the wall of the building.

Mesa police officers arrested Moses about a mile from the Tesla facility.

Court records filed at the time of the incident showed Moses was employed as a software developer and had no prior criminal history.
