Back story (buckle up buttercup its a long one): I bought this car in 2015 with the intent to have a fun daily after my WRX wagon had become a full fledge project car. That went well for a couple years but as the mileage was racking up (over 190K!) and the quarter panels started to show some rust bubbles, the “might as well” justifications started getting pretty loosey goosey. It started with some universal overs to address the rust in a "cheap and easy DIY" fashion. Then I needed to lower it more and add some wide wheels to fill in the bigger arches, so coilovers and an old set of splits came into the picture. Not being the biggest fan of universal overs (despite putting a set on this very car), when a chassis specific kit popped up on my IG one day, my destiny was decided. Fast forward a couple years of late nights and long weekend days I completed my biggest and most comprehensive project to date and boy, it felt great!
I did literally everything on this car myself, at home, and learned a LOT along the way, especially in body work. I did a full glass out color change respray to Subaru M1Y (crimson red metallic), building a DIY paint booth to get it done. I stripped the whole undercarriage down to bare metal, fixed a couple tender spots, then applied new epoxy, seam sealer and undercoat (second photo). New glass all around was due after all this hard work. I did a full engine build with forged pistons and an STi crank, and vapor blasted every aluminum part to make it all brand new. Not much work was done on the heads aside from valve seats re-cut by a local machine shop, and followed with a GSC valvetrain. The whole car has been done over and it shows— literally every nut and bolt was replaced or refinished. Over 190k on the chassis but you’d never know without seeing the odo!
The car is bagged (obviously right?) with Bag Riders PRO for the controls and Bag Riders Super Low for the air suspension. Of course I have bias being one of the founders at Bag Riders, but in my heart of hearts I'm a diehard car guy and love (mostly) how the stance community has grown over the last 15+ years I've been a part of it. I'm now approaching 40 which feels crazy, but no part of me intends to stop lowering and modifying cars. I am very passionate about helping other enthusiasts who are new to cars in whatever capacity, whether that is lowering or mechanical repairs. I feel deeply that the future of automotive culture demands strong, compassionate leadership and mentoring of newcomers… not gatekeeping information or shaming those asking questions, regardless how "low effort" they may seem.
So yeah! In case you have any questions about cars, especially relating to suspension of any sorts, don't hestiate to shoot me a message, I'm always down to help!
