Canyon will start 2026 with two battery upgrades on both the Spectral:ON trail bike and the long-travel Torque:ON, taking each up to 800Wh.
Both centred around Shimano’s 85Nm EP801 mid-motor, the upgrade comes courtesy of a partnership with Darfon, whose 800Wh aluminium housed batteries neatly integrate into the downtubes.
The housing is something Canyon are shouting about because this is one of the first complete end-to-end aluminium batteries on the market, a perk that ultimately bolsters the strength of the sensitive component. This claim is backed up by a double sealing of the battery housing to prevent water ingress and an enhanced dust proof rating of IP57. For those with sharp memories, Canyon previously issued a recall notice on some batteries having encountered quality control issues, so this proactive upgrade is a very welcome step.
Safety aside, the switch of battery supplier has turned up efficiency gains in the integration of 5.6Ah cells, up from the prior 5Ah units, something that ultimately means fewer individual cells need be used, saving weight and improving energy density, thus achievable range. So drastic is the efficiency gain, the new 800Wh battery is lighter than the prior 900Wh unit.
The upshot of this is that Canyon says you’ll get up to 1,900 metres of climbing power on a charge, or around 85km of fair use per charge.
Charging is boosted by CAN communication on the charger, so it can quickly charge to 80% then charge the remaining 20% optimally for when you need to use it. This smart charging allows for faster charging than the previous generation of batteries. An 80% charge takes two hours and a full charge of the 800Wh battery now takes 5 hours.

he new Spectral:ON and Torque:ON bikes are available from Canyon.com or the Canyon App from Tuesday 13 January 2026. At the top of the range, the premium Spectral:ON CFR is priced at €5,999 while the Torque:ON CF 9 is available at €4,999.
