The facelift of the 408 arrives after roughly two years: Peugeot, the French Stellantis brand, unveiled the battery-electric version of its crossover in early October 2024. Specifically, the 408 series is a fastback sedan with SUV elements, which is already available as a mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid. The initially offered internal combustion engine version is no longer on sale. The 408 is produced at Peugeot’s plant in Mulhouse, France.
Important to note: the E-408 is not based on the new STLA Medium platform but still uses the older EMP2 platform—the partially electrified versions have been available since 2022. However, the EMP2 platform received several upgrades for the E-408 at its 2024 launch. For instance, the front axle no longer uses the previously standard 115 kW motor but instead features a 157 kW drivetrain, matching the power output of the two battery-electric models, the E-3008 and E-5008, which are already built on the STLA Medium platform. In addition to the 157 kW output, the unit delivers 343 Nm of torque. The NMC battery was also new in 2024, with 58.2 kWh enabling a range of 453 kilometres. This basic configuration remains unchanged even after the 2026 facelift. However, Peugeot now states the range as 456 kilometres; the three extra kilometres are unlikely to make a noticeable difference in practice. Charging remains at 11 kW AC and a maximum of 120 kW DC, which are, at best, mediocre values for a 2026 electric vehicle.
What else? The E-408 measures 4.69 metres in length with a 2.79-metre wheelbase, has a width of 1.85 metres with mirrors folded, and stands 1.49 metres tall. In the standard seating configuration, the boot offers 471 litres of space, increasing to 1,545 litres with the rear seats folded.
Following its facelift, the E-408 now includes several electric-specific improvements. The most notable are an integrated route planner in the navigation system (as part of the ‘Peugeot Connect Plus’ package) and a battery pre-conditioning function that drivers can activate manually. Exception: in the higher-spec GT trim, the navigation system automatically activates this function when approaching a charging station suggested by the route planner.
Additionally, Peugeot will introduce the Plug&Charge function (as part of the ‘Connect One’ package) for the E-408 from summer 2025 onwards. This enables automatic authentication between compatible charging stations and the vehicle, eliminating the need for an app or charging card. The E-crossover also features a new V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) function, allowing external devices to be powered at up to 3.5 kW and 16 amperes. The required adapter is available either through the Peugeot accessory catalogue or from dealers. As a final charging-related update, there is now an “80 per cent charge limit” command to prevent exceeding this threshold during AC charging, thereby protecting the battery.
Peugeot highlights further differences, primarily in the vehicle’s aesthetics and materials. The changes to the body and underbody result in a slightly lower drag coefficient (CdA value: 0.66), leading to marginally reduced energy consumption of 14.7 kWh/100 km and a slightly increased range.
As a new design highlight, the updated 408 features illuminated PEUGEOT lettering at the rear and an illuminated lion-brand emblem at the front for the first time. The model also debuts in a new colour, Flare Green. Regarding the front end, designers have revamped the grille, updated the bumper, and repositioned the headlights slightly lower and separate from the LED claws. According to Peugeot, they are “barely visible when switched off, thanks to their integration into a glossy black frame.” The headlights are equipped with LED technology in the Allure and Allure Business trims, while the GT and GT Exclusive trims feature Matrix-LED technology.
The updated model also introduces new materials for the seats and interior trim. Higher trim levels feature materials such as genuine aluminium, Alcantara, and Nappa leather.
Peugeot has not yet commented on the price of the updated E-408. The current model is listed with a starting price of €46,300.
