Design and Styling
The CX-6e adopts Mazda’s ‘FUTURE + SOUL x MODERN’ Kodo design concept. The styling blends aesthetic sophistication with modern technology. Vinesh Bhindi, Managing Director of Mazda Australia, described the design as ‘bold and striking’ and a new evolution of the Kodo Soul of Motion philosophy.
The crossover SUV rides on a 2,902mm wheelbase. Exterior dimensions position it as a mid-sized electric SUV in the competitive Australian market.
Performance and Range
The CX-6e uses a 78kWh lithium iron phosphate battery paired with a single rear-mounted electric motor. The powertrain delivers 258PS and 290Nm of torque through a single-speed transmission.
Performance figures include a 0-100 km/hr time of 7.9 seconds and a top speed limited to 115mph. Range is rated at up to 480 km on the WLTP cycle, placing it in line with similar electric SUVs.
Charging Capabilities
DC rapid charging supports up to 195kW, allowing a 10-80% recharge in 24 minutes. AC charging is capped at 11kW, which takes longer for full charges.

Interior and Technology
Inside, the CX-6e features a technology-focused layout centered around a 26-inch combined display spanning the dashboard. This incorporates both infotainment and driver information.
The system includes a head-up display and gesture controls. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. Mazda’s connected services app offers remote functions including battery monitoring and digital key sharing.
Interior trim uses synthetic leather finishes across the range. The cabin design maintains Mazda’s focus on driver-focused ergonomics.
Space and Practicality
Boot capacity measures 468 litres with the rear seats up. This expands to 1,434 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
The practical dimensions make it suitable for families and those needing cargo flexibility.
Safety Features
All versions include nine airbags and a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems. These include autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, and blind spot monitoring.
The safety systems use a combination of cameras, radar, and ultrasonic sensors to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings.
Market Strategy
The CX-6e is the second all-electric Mazda model developed in collaboration with Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd confirmed for Australia. It follows the recently unveiled Mazda 6e sedan.
Bhindi emphasised the CX-6e represents Mazda’s multi-solution approach to electrification. ‘This is not just another EV, it’s a Mazda through and through,’ he said, highlighting the brand’s signature Jinba-ittai driving dynamics.
