LAKE TAHOE, Nev. and Calif. (KOLO) – The United States Forest Service recently approved Class 1 pedal-assist e-bikes on 112 miles of trails in the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit at Lake Tahoe in California and Nevada, according to a Tahoe Area Biking Association Facebook post.
This ruling was made after the National Environmental Policy Act review process, research, in addition to collaboration with user groups and public comment.
A Class 1 e-bike has a motor that helps only when the rider is pedaling and that stops when the e-bike reaches 20 miles per hour. It does not have a throttle.
