This man paid a visit to seven Chinese EV factories over seven days to see what they were really like behind the scenes.

Micah Toll, the host of the YouTube channel Ebikeschool.com, visited China and embarked on a tour.

With the help of his friend Jonathan, an e-bike industry consultant who speaks Mandarin, he visited several different factories.

From e-bikes to golf carts, he saw a whole lot on his travels.

What did this man see visiting seven Chinese EV factories?

In the Bafang Motor factory, he saw one of the world’s biggest e-bike component makers in action.

He saw advanced R&D taking place, from waterproofing to noise testing.

Over at the Jiangmen factory, he toured a facility making golf carts, utility carts, trikes, and low-speed vehicles.

Compared to Bafang, there was a lot less automation here, as he saw more manual welding and assembly taking place.

This may run contrary to what we imagine when we think of Chinese factories, where robots seem to be increasingly used – as was seen in the Xiaomi Super Factory.

Jiangmen’s vehicles were for foreign markets like the US, South Korea, and Israel.

Over at NIU Technologies, he watched scooters and mopeds being built and given test rides.

Toll had the opportunity to test ride some models for himself, including the XQi electric dirt bike and the RQi electric motorcycle.

What do these factories say about China’s EV industry?

The next factory was Yadea, which had a big range of products – graphene batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and public street charging outlets, for example.

The company, which makes a huge line of vehicles for domestic and Asian markets, had recently celebrated a sales milestone of 100 million vehicles.

Over at Eunorau, Toll toured a spare parts warehouse for the company’s e-bikes, and at Dahon, he saw a wide range of e-bike designs from carbon frames to electric gravel models.

Finally, at Heybike, he got an early look at the Heybike Alpha before it was released.

Better yet, he got to take it out for a test ride over a mixed terrain and urban paths.

So what does this tell us about the state of China’s EV industry?

Well, it’s booming – and we’ve had plenty of proof of that over the past few years.

BYD alone is soaring, particularly in the UK, where sales have exploded by 880 percent.

And it’s not just in the UK it’s seeing success – in October, it was revealed that the Chinese brand had overtaken Tesla to become the best-selling EV maker in the world.
